According to the North County Times, volunteers are needed to paint a downtown mural for the second annual “mural-in-a-day” event.  The first "mural-in-a-day" was painted in August on the side of the Townsite Sheriff's Station at Luz Duran Park.  Vista residents will be given the chance to take part in this great creative project next weekend.  The city is looking for 20 to 30 volunteers to help artist Art Mortimer paint the mural on Saturday, July 16.

Mortimer lives in the Los Angeles area currently, but grew up in Vista.  The local will spend next week sketching a mural on the side of URBN Pizza at 203 Main Street.  The mural will feature vintage packing labels for avocados.

Bill Fortmueller, assistant director of recreation and community service, said the theme ties into Vista's agricultural roots.  In regards to the space chosen, Fortmueller comments that, "We were looking for prominent walls that (provided) a large, blank space that would draw interest to the downtown.”  For Vista as a whole, this painting will help deter graffiti and attract positive attention for the city neighborhoods.
